For the first time since 2019, Walt Disney World will operate both of its iconic water parks Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach—simultaneously this summer. Starting May 21 and running through September 7, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy both parks daily, marking a major shift in Disney’s water park operations.
A Historic Change
Since the onset of the global pandemic, Disney World has followed a policy of alternating the operation of its two water parks, keeping only one open at a time. This summer’s simultaneous reopening is a welcome change for visitors eager to beat the Florida heat while enjoying Disney’s full range of water attractions. Adding to the excitement, Disney World has also announced half-price kids’ tickets for Summer 2025, making family visits more affordable.
Refurbishments and Enhancements
Ahead of the dual reopening, both parks have undergone updates to enhance guest experiences:
- Blizzard Beach: The winter-themed park recently introduced new elements inspired by Disney’s Frozen, including a dedicated area for young children. Attractions like Summit Plummet—one of the tallest and fastest free-fall body slides in the world—and its lazy river remain fan favorites.
- Typhoon Lagoon: Known for its tropical paradise theme and North America’s largest wave pool, Typhoon Lagoon offers thrilling water attractions alongside relaxing escapes. Its iconic Mount Mayday erupts every half hour with a 50-foot geyser, adding to the park’s immersive experience.
Blizzard Beach will close briefly for refurbishment from May 1 to May 20 before reopening alongside Typhoon Lagoon on May 21.
Exclusive Perks for Resort Guests
Disney is introducing new benefits for guests staying at Walt Disney World Resort hotels. Starting this summer, resort guests will receive complimentary access to the water parks on their check-in day. This perk applies to all hotel categories, from Value Resorts like Disney’s All-Star Resorts to Deluxe accommodations like Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Additional summer deals include up to 30% off resort stays, discounted theme park admission, and the return of the free dining plan.
Strategic Move to Meet Demand
The decision to operate both water parks simultaneously reflects Disney’s commitment to enhancing guest experiences during peak travel seasons. With Florida’s summer temperatures often exceeding 90°F (32°C), having both parks open ensures greater capacity and more options for visitors looking to cool off.
While this arrangement is set to last until September 7, it remains unclear whether it will become a permanent fixture or if it is a special offering for this summer.
