Two iconic American brands just cracked open something unexpected in the comfort food aisle. Campbell’s Chunky and Pabst Blue Ribbon have partnered to create beer-infused soups that transform your average lunch into a dive bar experience—without the sticky floors.
Bold Flavors Meet Familiar Comfort
Beer Cheese with Potatoes & Chorizo leads the lineup alongside Beef, Bacon & Beer Chili with Beans.
The collaboration delivers two distinct flavors designed for maximum comfort. The Beer Cheese with Potatoes & Chorizo soup combines creamy cheese base with savory chorizo and hearty potatoes, all infused with PBR’s signature flavor.
Meanwhile, the Beef, Bacon & Beer Chili with Beans packs seasoned beef, smoky bacon, and beans into a robust chili that works equally well straight from the can or poured over nachos. Both soups invite creative serving—bread bowls for the cheese variety, hot dog toppings for the chili.
Walmart Exclusive Launch with Experiential Twist
The rollout includes dive bar takeovers and food truck sampling tours starting this August.
Starting August 2025, both soups will be available exclusively at Walmart nationwide throughout soup season. The brands aren’t stopping at retail placement, though. Ray’s Bar in New York City will host an early tasting event on August 21, embodying both brands’ working-class roots in authentic dive bar surroundings. A nationwide food truck sampling tour at select Walmart stores follows on September 3, bringing the experience directly to shoppers.
Tradition Gets a Mass-Market Makeover
Beer-infused soups trace back to German biersuppe and Midwestern American comfort food traditions.
This collaboration isn’t culinary blasphemy—it’s cultural evolution. German biersuppe and Wisconsin beer cheese soups have enjoyed regional popularity for generations, primarily confined to home kitchens and local restaurants. Campbell’s and PBR are essentially packaging centuries-old European traditions for American grocery aisles, complete with modern touches like chorizo that reflect evolving palates. The partnership makes perfect sense given both brands’ blue-collar accessibility and comfort-first positioning.
The launch represents how legacy American brands stay relevant—by embracing nostalgia while delivering genuine novelty. For comfort food enthusiasts, these soups offer familiar satisfaction with enough unexpected flair to justify the Walmart run.
