Your next party centerpiece might require a software update. Amoon Spirits just launched what it calls the world’s first “smart vodka”—a $249.99 bottle that transforms every pour into a synchronized light show complete with swirling liquid vortex and smartphone app control.
The system centers on Amoon’s patented Vortex Control Unit, a USB-C powered base that spins an internal stir bar to create mesmerizing liquid motion while customizable LED lights pulse through the bottle. Think lava lamp meets bottle service, controlled by an AI-enhanced app that lets you adjust vortex speed, lighting colors, and preset shows to match your mood or music.
Six Years in the Making
Indianapolis entrepreneurs spent years perfecting their “connected spirits” vision.
Mark McLaurine II and Christopher Tooley, longtime friends and founders of Amoon Spirits, developed this technology over six years. “Amoon was built to redefine the cocktail experience,” McLaurine explains. “We wanted to create an entirely new ultra-premium segment.”
The vodka itself—distilled from sweet potatoes and corn in New York’s Catskills Mountains—aims to match the spectacle with smooth, gluten-free quality. The founders position their creation as more than just tech novelty, emphasizing that the spirit itself should remain “the star” of the experience.
More Than Just Vodka Theater
The company plans to expand beyond vodka using the same hardware platform.
Amoon positions this as the foundation for an entire “connected luxury” category. Future software updates promise gamified experiences, while planned expansions include gin, tequila, and bourbon bottles compatible with the same VCU system. “Our goal is for every first-time consumer to feel a sense of wonder the moment they encounter Amoon,” says co-founder Tooley.
The pricing structure reflects this platform approach:
- Complete smart system with VCU base: $249.99
- VCU-compatible replacement bottles: $49.99
- Classic non-connected vodka: $39.99
- Available via AmoonSpirits.com and ReserveBar
As Foodbeast aptly noted: “Vodka may not need Wi-Fi—but here we are.” Whether Amoon represents genuine innovation or expensive novelty depends on your tolerance for app-controlled alcohol. For bottle service venues seeking Instagram-worthy spectacle and home entertainers chasing the next conversation starter, it’s probably both.
The question isn’t whether spirits need to be smart—it’s whether drinkers are ready to pay premium prices for programmable ambiance built into the bottle itself.
