Sweet corn on the cob just dropped to $0.25 an ear at Walmart — down from $0.68. That’s a 63% cut on something you’ll buy by the dozen for any summer cookout worth the effort. Walmart is calling this push a “Rollback” (its term for temporary markdowns), and it covers thousands of items across beef, produce, beverages, grills, and seasonal gear. Sam’s Club is running parallel cuts on more than 250 items through July 22, with a July Instant Savings Event launching July 23.
This isn’t charity. It’s a calculated move to capture summer grocery spending while shoppers are still wincing at the checkout from two years of inflation.
What Walmart Is Actually Cutting
The sharpest markdowns land on the items filling every summer shopping cart right now.
Walmart’s price reductions hit the staples hardest:
- Sweet corn on the cob: $0.25 from $0.68
- Fresh red cherries (2.25 lb. bag): $5.63 from $11.18
- Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar 24-packs: $9.97 from $14.97
- Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, Diet Mountain Dew 24-packs: $9.97 from $13.97
- Lay’s Classic Potato Chips (8 oz.): $2.50 from $2.97
That soda discount alone — five dollars off a 24-pack — is the kind of number that changes whether you buy two cases or one.
Sam’s Club Cuts Go Deep on Protein
Membership required, but the per-pound prices on grilling staples are hard to argue with.
Sam’s Club’s discounts lean heavily into cookout proteins, according to the chain’s summer savings announcement. Member’s Mark Bone-In Chicken Wings now ring up at $2.00 per pound, down from $2.88 — a meaningful drop for anyone loading up for a road trip or a backyard spread.
Beef hot dogs come in at $10.86, reduced from $12.96. Ground beef (88/12) now runs $5.97 per pound, a $0.20 cut from the previous shelf price on some of the best cuts of steak and grilling proteins. Whole bone-in pork back ribs also moved lower, to $3.18 per pound from $3.48.
Worth noting: Sam’s Club requires a paid membership, so factor that cost into any comparison shopping before the drive over.
One political footnote: As reported by USA Today, President Trump said Walmart would lower prices following a White House request. Walmart’s own announcement made no mention of that claim.
These deals expire. The Sam’s Club window closes July 22, when the July Instant Savings Event takes over. Walmart’s Rollbacks run on their own unpublished schedule. Stock up on the corn now — summer is short and so is the sale.
