A unique culinary event combining military service recognition with cultural tradition will bring female veterans together this holiday season in South San Antonio. As reported by Livefromthesouthside, the inaugural tamalada, scheduled for December 20, 2024, aims to celebrate both military service and Hispanic heritage through the time-honored tradition of tamale making.
Community Connection takes center stage at this event, organized by the Pink Berets and Texas Sugar Daddies in partnership with KSAT and Live From the Southside magazine. The two-hour gathering will take place at 1135 Mission Road, Building 9, from 4-6 p.m.
Cultural Heritage meets hands-on learning as participants will receive guidance from experienced chefs and home cooks in the art of tamale making. The event will cover essential skills including:
- Preparing traditional masa
- Mastering tamale wrapping techniques
- Learning cultural significance and history
Beyond Cuisine, the event serves as a platform for storytelling and community building. Female veterans will have the opportunity to connect with fellow service members while participating in this cherished cultural tradition.
Local Leadership from Live From the Southside, a Latina-owned magazine, demonstrates the community’s commitment to supporting veterans while preserving cultural heritage. This partnership highlights the intersection of military service and local traditions.
This inaugural event represents more than just a cooking class – it’s a celebration of service, culture, and community coming together during the holiday season.
