Why We Exist

We’re not just another travel publication—we’re a guide to discovering the world through unforgettable journeys and incredible food.

Whether you’re mapping out your next big adventure, exploring a city’s hidden culinary gems, or hunting for the perfect travel gear, we’re here to call you in—to stories, flavors, and moments that leave a mark.

For us, travel is about connection—to places, people, and the stories behind every meal, market, or destination. That’s the magic we aim to share.

Our Commitment

We’re committed to helping you travel smarter and eat better.

No clickbait or empty recommendations—just honest reviews, practical guides, and curated insights from people who’ve been there.

From finding life-changing meals to planning unforgettable trips, we focus on experiences that nourish your soul and your curiosity—calling you deeper into every destination and every bite.

Our Mission

The internet is full of generic travel tips and lifeless reviews. That’s not what we’re about.

Our mission is to bring back the heart and authenticity that make exploring the world so rewarding. We cut through the noise to uncover experiences that are truly worth your time, money, and attention.

Every journey should tell a story, and every meal should be a connection to something bigger. That’s the kind of travel and dining we celebrate, and the kind of moments we’re here to call you into.

How we Make Money

At The Call Of, we’re all about sharing stories that inspire your next adventure or meal, and we want to be transparent about how we keep this website going. Our goal is to provide honest recommendations, and here’s how we fund that mission:

  • Display Ads: You might see ads sprinkled across the site, which also help support us. We make sure they’re relevant, and we keep them as non-intrusive as possible because no one likes ads that get in the way of a good story.

The important thing to know? Our recommendations aren’t for sale. What we share is based on real experiences and honest opinions. Thanks for traveling with us!

Our Editorial Policy

We’re your guides to those moments that stick with you long after the bags are unpacked.

Here’s how we find these stories for you:

Our team digs deep into the food and travel world each day. From tracking Michelin star announcements and James Beard Award winners to finding new spots earning their stars, we’re on top of what matters in food. But we’re just as excited about the family-run gem that’s been serving the same perfect dish for 40 years.

Every story you read here goes through many hands – professional chefs and frequent travelers who’ve eaten their way across continents. They check facts, taste test recipes, and make sure every recommendation is worth your precious time and money.

We sometimes use AI to help us keep articles succinct and engaging, but real travelers and chefs craft every story. Because at heart, we’re building a home for people who believe every journey should leave you changed, and every meal should tell a story.

Our Values

AUTHENTICITY

We share the truth—about destinations, dining, and the products we recommend.

Our stories are real, and our advice is genuine.

CONNECTION

Food and travel connect us all.

We’re here to highlight those moments of shared humanity, whether through a meal, a market, or a journey.

CURIOSITY

The world is too big and beautiful to stay in one place.

Every meal, every destination, and every story is an opportunity to learn, grow, and be inspired.

Who We Are

We’re a team of professional chefs, travelers, and storytellers with a shared passion for discovery.

From savoring street food to finding gear that makes travel seamless, we live for the thrill of the journey and the flavors along the way.

We believe travel is about more than just where you go—it’s about how you feel when you get there and the memories you take with you.

We love what we do, and we’re here to help you find your next adventure or your next great meal. Let’s explore together.

Our Team

We’re powered by a crew of travelers, chefs, photographers, designers, and digital specialists who live to uncover great stories.

Together, we’re part of Superlativ Media Group – a company built to create digital experiences that actually help people. Rex and Christen started Superlativ to end the endless searching, bring total transparency to reviews, and prioritize the needs of readers. We’re here to stand with the people, not companies that put profits first.

Think of us as your go-to source that tests everything and tells it like it is. No spin, no fluff – just honest information that helps you make smart choices about where to go and what to eat.

Rex Freiberger

Founder & Editor-in-Chief

As Founder and Editor-in-Chief of The Call Of, Rex Freiberger drives the vision and editorial direction of the platform. He’s invented groundbreaking rating systems – his True Score and Trust Rating on Gadget Review set new standards for product reviews, offering unmatched accuracy in determining quality. He also developed the most precise album rating system for Music Minds, and now he’s bringing this same analytical approach to The Call Of’s restaurant reviews.

Food runs deeper than just ratings for Rex. As a home chef and herbalist, he’s constantly pushing boundaries in his kitchen. His counters are lined with pickling jars and fermentation experiments, while his garden supplies fresh herbs for both innovative cocktails and bold new recipes.

Friends gather regularly at his table, knowing they’re in for an evening of unique flavors and good company.

The Freibergers’ truck for their family business White Sail Cornmeal.

This passion for food is in his blood.

It all started with White Sail Cornmeal, their family mill in Gastonia, North Carolina, where quality ingredients meant everything. The legacy only grew stronger – his grandmother ran her own restaurant while his father, Dr. Harley Freiberger, managed to be both a full-time surgeon and an award-winning chef.

Dr. Harley Freiberger cooking his pan-grilled spicy Thai chicken that won him the South Carolina recipe competition in 1993.

That pan-grilled spicy Thai chicken recipe of his? It won South Carolina’s competition in May 1993 and landed in the top 10 at the National Chicken Council.

Today, his sister Amelia Devillier-Freiberger carries on the tradition, advising The Call Of while running the celebrated La Petite Grocery with her husband, award-winning chef Justin Devillier.

Just like his family before him, Rex puts that same dedication into every story he tells and every meal he shares.

Christen Da Costa

CEO

Meet Christen, who keeps The Call Of running like clockwork. He streamlines the editorial, SEO, and development processes while steering the publication toward future growth.

His digital expertise runs deep – you might recognize his first creation, Gadget Review. After building that platform into a trusted name in online content, he brought his leadership and innovation to The Call Of.

Life wasn’t always palm trees and ocean views for this Boston suburbs native. But once California called with its promise of endless summer, he made the move west and never looked back. His adventures didn’t stop there – he’s explored countless countries, though he credits his wife for his greatest culinary discovery: a true appreciation for sushi.

Away from his desk, you’ll find him mastering hack-and-slash games on his PlayStation or dreaming up new ways to improve the digital landscape.
